COVER REVEAL: Finale (Caraval #3) by Stephanie Garber

Shall we look at all three covers together?

Goodreads

Amazon | Barnes & Noble | Book Depository

Synopsis:

Welcome, welcome to Finale, the third and final book in the #1 New York Times bestselling Caraval series!

Welcome, welcome to Caraval…all games must come to an end.

It’s been two months since the last Caraval concluded, two months since the Fates have been freed from an enchanted deck of cards, two months since Tella has seen Legend, and two months since Legend claimed the empire’s throne as his own. Now, Legend is preparing for his official coronation and Tella is determined to stop it. She believes her own mother, who still remains in an enchanted sleep, is the rightful heir to the throne.

Meanwhile, Scarlett has started a game of her own. She’s challenged Julian and her former fiancé, Count Nicolas d’Arcy, to a competition where the winner will receive her hand in marriage. Finaly, Scarlett feels as if she is in complete control over her life and future. She is unaware that her mother’s past has put her in the greatest danger of all.

Caraval is over, but perhaps the greatest game of all has begun―with lives, empires, and hearts all at stake. There are no spectators this time: only those who will win…and those who will lose everything.

Although I’m a little bit excited about this, I am also just a little bit ashamed to say I still have not finished Legendary.

EW.com released the original cover reveal of the book.

From 1 to 10, how excited are you for this?

UNBOXING: Illumicrate Magic & Mayhem The V.E. Edition Box

Hope you had a terrific day. Early this week, I unboxed the Illumicrate MAGIC & MAYHEM: THE V.E. EDITION first thing in the morning!

This is my first lllumicrate box and I couldn’t be more impressed! I don’t even know how a box could be this PERFECT! Needless to say, next time Illumicrate does a special edition box of a fandom I’m a part of, there will be non hesitation on my part!!! (Also, I cannot wait for my Muse of Nightmares & Strange the Dreamer limited editions)

Shall we?

First… an overview!

DSCN2361

I know right? I’m impressed too… how did I even manage to fit them all in one pic?? It’s a mystery.

The tote bag is made of this really heavy canvas fabric and you can see how high the quality is in the stitches and the heavy-duty handle. Definitely perfect for #bookhauls!

Does anyone get who that lady with horns is though? I’m not getting the reference…

DSCN2366

  • Kell and Lila at the Essen Tasch ball art print by Victoria Ying

Probably my least favorite by far out of all the items in this box… not because I don’t like it (not at all the case) but just because if I have to choose. I just feel like it’s got more of a Disney vibe than the darker vibe characteristic to the ADSOM series.

I love that it’s full-size and in a jar (even with all these other high-quality goodies with it) and I know I’ll never light it up because… it’s too pretty! Each layer represents one of the Londons, but I’m sure you’ve noticed (you can admire the beauty below!)

DSCN2367

The details on these are staggering. I love the set so much and I don’t think I can ever bear to part with them…. so good luck trying to make me use these as postcards.

If I have to pick a favorite between the four, I’ll pick the one for Red London – for the enchanting shot of the bridge, the bright and eye-catching red, and for the quote featured in the back. It’s one of those quotes I remember jotting down when I was reading the series:

Love and loss are like a ship and the sea. They rise together. The more we love, the more we have to lose. But the only way to avoid loss is to avoid love. And what a sad world that would be.

It kind of reminds me of Aciman’s quote in Call Me By Your Name“But to feel nothing so as not to feel anything – what a waste!”

DSCN2368

We are all immortal until proven otherwise.

Before I realized this was a VICIOUS item, I thought it was a London coin/token, like what Kell uses to travel between Londons.

DSCN2374

DSCN2379

dscn2369.jpg

Hyperventilating – can’t believe how gorgeous these three items are and they’re all from Fable & Black! I’ve never even heard of them yet in the book box world but I’ll remember them from now on. SO IMPRESSIVE. The workmanship is top-notch!

It can definitely work as a Kindle case! It also works well to protect all the paper goodies that came in the box 😀

DSCN2373

Works great as a themed accessory… I’ll probably end up bringing my own water next time I go study at Starbucks or at the bookstore  (V.E. Schwab-themed)!

It didn’t actually say, but I’m guessing the characters are: Kell, Rhy, Holland, Alucard, Lila, and Athos & Astrid Dane. It’s a cool collectible, but I’m not really a fan of the interpretations except for Lila Bard and the Dane siblings. I do love the borders though!

DSCN2371

  • Double-sided bookmarks illustrated by Merwild

On the other hand, I LOVEEE these, especially Kell, and then Rhy ❤ They’re so dashing! Coralie is sooo talented – I love the sharp features of her illustrations.

DSCN2381

I’m just amazed that all of these items are high-value!!!! I have so many mugs, but I love these enamel tin mugs, they don’t feel as fragile. I’ll probably just end up using it as a decorative piece more than an actual mug because I have so many mugs already… even though I might end up using it at least once during fall/winter! We’ll see!

  • Black-out poetry book sleeve by Illumicrate

At this point, I’ve run out of compliments for the box. This is yet another amazing thing that I can’t believe is in this box. I just remember all the book boxes I’ve subscribed to and whenever they announce that they’ll have a mug or a book sleeve or a scarf, it’s immediately thought to be well worth it – but this box has all those AND MORE!

Definitely no regrets.

DSCN2380

  • Letter from V.E. herself.

I am just overjoyed at the simple fact that it matches the whole theme, but also uses the exact replica of the beautiful and minimalist ADSOM covers.

DSCN2382

And last, but certainly not the least, might even be the greatest…

Here’s what it looks like naked… (GASP!)

It actually matches the pin I got from my Owlcrate (<<<<<see unboxing), so that’s cool. This is probably the new character, Marcella?

DSCN2383

I even forgot it’s signed! V.E. signature is sooo cute and cool!

DSCN2384

More EO figures…

DSCN2386DSCN2387

BONUS: This is my cat Missy and I just had to include her because she made it just a little bit of a challenge to take pics – LOL she loves either lying down on my fur background or on the items (she creased my spoiler card BTW, bad Misssyy!)

DSCN2365

WOW, thank you for reading all that!!!

UNBOXING: Owlcrate Limited Edition Vicious & Vengeful Box

Heeeyyy, readers! I’m back this Sunday with a fun unboxing for you all: Owlcrate‘s first Limited Edition box in collaboration with a beloved author, V.E. Schwab, featuring her newest book VENGEFUL – the highly anticipated, 5-years-in-the-making sequel to VICIOUS.

Now… let the unboxing begin!

P.S. Don’t let your jealousy RUIN YOU 😉

DSCN2344

Looks-wise, I love the design for the ELI candle… scent and character-wise, I’m very partial to the VICTOR candle. There’s no official description of the scents though…all I know is I don’t like the scent of the ELI candle at all – reminds me of the suffocating scent that hits me whenever I enter a Kirkland store or some arts & crafts store. On the other hand, the VICTOR candle is a very clean and shall I say manly just-got-out-of-the-shower smell? Anyway, I likeeeyyy.

DSCN2348

I remember Mitch and he was one of my favorite characters in Vicious, because he was just so unexpectedly nice… and smart. I don’t remember him loving chocolate milk though, but that sounds like him, alright!

This lip balm smells and tastes sooooo yummmy (yep, once again, I kind of ate it…)

DSCN2349

Wouldn’t say I was thrilled about the socks exactly, but it’s kind of cool. Hopefully my mom would like it… haha! I don’t wear socks, it’s too hot for me (even during the winter)… my feet feels suffocated lol.

The design was apparently inspired by the new Vicious cover (redesigned by Wil Staehle, artist of the ADSOM trilogy covers):

DSCN2351

I would say this box is just perfect for the Halloween season – I’m not very fond of it, but at least it features probably one of the most-well known quotes from VICIOUS.

DSCN2353

And now we come to my favorite item from the box! I love stationery items! And I think black-out poetry’s pretty cool… if I’m not mistaken, the UK covers look like this. Can’t wait for my Illumicrate box that should include an exclusive UK cover for VENGEFUL. But, wait.. I’m getting ahead of myself.. let’s finish this unboxing first.

DSCN2355

Aren’t Melie’s illustrations so on-point?? Victor looks so badass, Eli looks despicable (because he is), and Sydney and Dol looks so innocent.

And this Marcella is certainly intriguing – she kind of reminds me of Lila Bard from the ADSOM trilogy.

DSCN2357

  • Signed first edition of VENGEFUL + sticker + mini EO enamel pin

The cover looks sleek (wooohoo, I finally have a signed V.E. Schwab book!) and honestly, it took me a few seconds to figure out what the little person was about lol.

DSCN2358

And last but not least…

  • VICIOUS + VENGEFUL spoiler card + newsletter + Owlcrate button

DSCN2335

Let’s all just take a step back and appreciate the all-black Owlcrate Limited Edition box… I don’t have a pic for you guys, but the interior is red so it matches the black and red theme of VENGEFUL’s cover.

And that concludes today’s unboxing! Thanks for reading!

Have fun, and stay peachy 😉

ARC REVIEW: The Opposite of Innocent by Sonya Sones (Sep 2018)

Sometimes I feel like a book. Like a book that’s never been opened – hidden away in a long-forgotten library, waiting for someone to find me, ease me off my shelf, and read me.

Goodreads

Lily’s story is both haunting and chilling – and with such a delicate subject. It was a very quick read but is also very heavy, emotionally. We have a character here who started out being so young – in age, heart, mind, and soul. She goes through this rapid progression of maturity, completely paralleled by the rapid narrative through verses. The unraveling of Lily’s story is both beautiful and ugly, full of hope but also full of pain.

This is the first novel in verse that I’ve read. If you haven’t read a novel in verse yet, I highly recommend you do so, and maybe you could start with this one, too!

Love & Luck

Love & Luck was an absolutely wonderful read, mixing fresh and classic themes that all meld into a perfect contemporary piece! It’s a story about self-discovery, being brave, and worthy friendships.

I especially enjoyed that it’s not your usual YA contemporary romance read that is centered around the boy-girl romantic relationship – this one’s mostly about Addie’s relationship with her brother, Ian.

Addie’s journey to self-discovery is so great to read, and I just love how her friendships/relationships/interactions with people are portrayed. Even the “villain” in the story is somewhat lovable.

…age has nothing to with what you can accomplish – if you’ve got it, you’ve got it. Why wait until you grow up? And then once you’re all grown-up, why stop?

Besides the fun plot and characters, I love the wit and wisdom packed into this! I especially loved the entries from the Ireland for the Heartbroken guidebook – oh, how I wish it’s a real thing, I would sooo buy it. Not that I’m wishing for a broken heart. I just saw that the B&N exclusive edition has additional entries, so I might just grab myself a copy so I can own this beautiful book + read those fun entries!

You don’t need anyone, unless you want them. You’re enough all on your own. You’re more than enough. You’re Maeve.

I wanted to get this review out before the summer ends because it definitely is a PERFECT summer read! If you’re looking to get out of a reading slump, this one’s also for you, since it’s short and sweet and quite uplifting!

P.S. London is my top dream destination! Why? Two words: Jane Austen. Although I’ve read a lot of books set in Ireland and Scotland, I want to visit those too!!!

COVER REVEAL: 99 Percent Mine by Sally Thorne (Author of The Hating Game)

Crush: a strong and often short-lived infatuation, particularly for someone beyond your reach…

I knowww, I knooooww. You probably have all heard of The Hating Game by now. It certainly made the rounds.

Love it or hate it, you can move on to Sally’s new upcoming novel, 99 Percent Mine. As for me, I am 100% ANTICIPATING this.

GAHHH. I will need to buy a copy of The Hating Game, because their covers match!!!

Here’s the synopsis for you…

Darcy Barrett has undertaken a global survey of men. She’s travelled the world, and can categorically say that no one measures up to Tom Valeska, whose only flaw is that Darcy’s twin brother Jamie saw him first and claimed him forever as his best friend. Despite Darcy’s best efforts, Tom’s off limits and loyal to her brother, 99%. That’s the problem with finding her dream man at age eight and peaking in her photography career at age twenty—ever since, she’s had to learn to settle for good enough.

When Darcy and Jamie inherit a tumble-down cottage from their grandmother, they’re left with strict instructions to bring it back to its former glory and sell the property. Darcy plans to be in an aisle seat halfway across the ocean as soon as the renovations start, but before she can cut and run, she finds a familiar face on her porch: house-flipper extraordinaire Tom’s arrived, he’s bearing power tools, and he’s single for the first time in almost a decade.

Suddenly Darcy’s considering sticking around to make sure her twin doesn’t ruin the cottage’s inherent magic with his penchant for grey and chrome. She’s definitely not staying because of her new business partner’s tight t-shirts, or that perfect face that’s inspiring her to pick up her camera again. Soon sparks are flying—and it’s not the faulty wiring. It turns out one percent of Tom’s heart might not be enough for Darcy anymore. This time around, she’s switching things up. She’s going to make Tom Valeska 99 percent hers.

And here you go!

#LifeUpdateFriday

So I’m doing life updates now? As of this moment, I apparently am.

You might or might not have noticed that I haven’t been posting too much lately besides for a few blog tours and/or mini updates.

Well, that’s because my life got a little busier. I’m not exactly scrambling or anything, but I guess that’s why I’m not blogging as often because I don’t want to be scrambling or putting out non-quality posts. I really do not like the idea of reviewing books by batches, so right now, there are a bunch of books that I need to review. I think I’m nearing 20 books “pending review” – NOT good because the end of the year is FAST approaching, can you believe it?!

train GIF

What have I been up to?

  • Started my new job! Well, it’s nearing two months now, actually. But I still love it! Timing-wise, it’s much more flexible, and I think it really is a breath of fresh air to feel like you “own” your time even though that’s exactly what they pay you for? Do you know what I mean? I’m so happy because I’m finally in the field that I want to work in – TAX! It’s so exciting. There’s no two days that are alike, and I never know what to expect. It’s been fun, and I hope it continues being that way.
  • Been listening to a lot of audio. Instead of hating or just tolerating my around 2-hr per day commute time, I’m loving it! I actually look forward to when I can get back to my car and drive and just listen to powerful motivational speakers like Jim Rohn (MY FAVORITE!!!), Les Brown, and Darren Hardy – I hope to review and share some of the stuff I learned with you guys, when time allows.
  • Not reading a lot…. 😦 Sorry to disappoint you, but nope, I haven’t been reading so much lately (except for the audiobooks I mentioned). When I get home, my eyes and brain are usually so tired I just want to either sleep or watch a movie or an episode of a favorite show.

sad face GIF

Speaking of a favorite show…

  • DYLAN WANG is my new OBSESSION. Really, I’m obsessed with the entire cast of the 2018 version of the classic Taiwanese drama, Meteor Garden. It’s on Netflix, y’all, and I highly highly highly recommend it! It has the best parts of YA contemporary romance fiction, except with visuals (GREAT visuals). AMAZING VISUALS. Like I’m shipping #DyShen so hard, it’s not even funny – like, I am convinced that if they end up together in real life, my life is DIRECTLY going to be positively affected. I have no idea where I get this idea from.

Here’s my Didi:

And here’s my #DyShen being so cute together:

Thank you for being kind enough to read all that! I hope you at least enjoyed it a LITTLE bit!

P.S. How have you all been doing?? I REALLY really miss being around here and interacting with you guys.

Did you like my first life update? Or do you prefer this to be my first and last one? (it’s okay, you can tell me 😉 )
